Kickstart Your Visit To Loudoun County, Virginia

by Krista Beck

Finding something exciting to do around Loudoun County, Virginia couldn’t be easier. In fact, my husband and I moved here for the “vacationland” experience. Wineries, breweries, farms, local artisans, outdoor recreation, rain day activities, wedding venues, historical sites- Loudoun has it all!

Visiting a new place can feel overwhelming. You’re either being overloaded with ideas for things to do, or just aren’t really sure how to even start looking. As your hosts, we are here to help! Feel free to reach out to us anytime with questions or ideas on how to make the most of your visit to the area.

How about we start you off with a list of our favorite places?

TOP GOLF. Top Golf is an experience for anyone, whether you play golf, don’t play golf, are a family group or a bachelorette group. Rent a bay and have fun hitting balls into the field in hopes of racking up some points! This is a kid friendly establishment that also offers food and bar service. When you’re finished with golf, stroll through OneLoudoun, which boasts plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and an Alamo movie theatre.

GEORGE’S MILL FARM. The real treat here is a visit to George’s Mill Farm in the spring time when the baby goats start to come into the world. Why? Baby goat snuggling!! This Western Loudoun County iconic activity is a MUST DO if you’re visiting in the spring. Year round, you can shop George’s Mill Cheese and other artisan goods at their on site farm store.

VISIT A FARMER’S MARKET. Loudoun County, Virginia has over 1200 farms! In such a robust growing area, you can be assured there are plenty of farmer’s markets. Visit Loudoun Farms to write one into your visit.

GREAT COUNTRY FARMS. Situated in beautiful Bluemont, VA, a visit to Great Country Farms is an all day affair. There’s always an activity going on, whether it’s a seasonal “pick-your-own” or a corn maze. And when you’re ready to relax, you could explore their other affiliations- Henway Hard Cider, Bluemont Vineyard and Dirt Farm Brewing.

HARPER’S FERRY, WEST VIRGINIA. While staying with us, you are located not far from many historical sites. Harper’s Ferry National Historical Park is a well visited park all year round and is really quite large. In the historic town, you’ll find artisan shops and restaurants. A pedestrian bridge takes you across the river to the regional Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath, perfect for walking, running and biking. A great day hike near the area is Loudoun Heights, much less traveled than the famous Maryland Heights. When you’re finished, scoot up to Harper’s Ferry Brewing for great beer, snacks and incredible views. For an “out-of-this-WORLD” plant based meal, check out Kelley Farm Kitchen. You won’t regret it!

You’ll drive past gorgeous farms, maybe stop for a high-end wine tasting at Boxwood Estate Winery and then stroll around the historical downtown. Visit Hunter’s Head Tavern in Upperville for an old world feeling meal experience featuring a locally sourced menu.

While in this area, make it a point to try some wine from Sunset Hills Vineyard, or perhaps a brew from Wheatland Spring Farm & Brewery.
